Time to Start Pruning!

Pruning is one of the best ways of keeping your garden beautiful in the spring and summer. Now is the ideal time to start thinking about and planning your pruning.

The purpose of pruning is to initiate new growth, but if you prune your shrubs too early, and we get a late spring frost, your new growth may get damaged. Hold off on pruning until you are sure that spring has sprung, and your plants will do just fine. If you are unsure about what to prune and when, please reach out, and we will guide you on the proper way to prune. Call us at 631-968-8161.

When and How Much to Water

People often ask us about watering. When it comes to irrigation, not lawn, yard or garden is the same. When you are watering, with a consistent irrigation system, you will always get a deeper rooted grass, which is healthier in the long term. Many people water their lawn in each zone for 20 minutes at time in each zone (when you have multiple zones). Sometimes this is not enough.

At times, you may have to increase your watering from 20 minutes per zone to 20 minutes twice per zone. This may be necessary if the water is not sufficient to get a good enough watering. For example if the outside temperature is very hot for long periods of time, you'll want to water more frequently. Also, watering at night when the sun and heat aren't going to burn off the water before it has a chance to sink in is also a good idea.
